Alec Baldwin paid tribute to the victims of the 9/11 terror attacks on the 22nd anniversary. The actor, who recently had all criminal charges dropped over a fatal shooting incident, reflected on his whereabouts during the attacks. In an Instagram video, he mentioned watching a ’60 Minutes’ piece about 9/11, which reminded him of the painful events. Baldwin shared that he was rehearsing for a play on Long Island on the day of the attacks, and later visited Ground Zero with his brother to support the Red Cross.
Alec expressed his admiration for the firefighters and police who showed heroism during the attacks. He acknowledged the passage of 22 years and expressed his condolences for those who lost their lives and their families. He concluded by saying, “God bless everyone, who died… and their families. God bless the firefighters.”
The 9/11 attacks took place on September 11, 2001, when 19 terrorists hijacked four planes. They crashed two planes into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, aimed the next two flights towards targets in Washington D.C., and successfully crashed into the Pentagon. A passenger revolt prevented the fourth plane from reaching its intended target, causing it to crash in rural Pennsylvania. These attacks resulted in the deaths of nearly 3,000 people and initiated the “global war on terror”.
On the 22nd anniversary, Americans gathered at various locations such as memorials, firehouses, city halls, and universities to honor and remember the victims of the attacks.
