Ethan Hawke made an extraordinary effort to attend the premiere of his film ‘Wildcat’. Despite three cancelled flights due to bad weather, the 52-year-old actor-turned-director was determined to showcase his new movie at the Toronto International Film Festival. Alongside his wife Ryan Shawhughes, Hawke spent over 10 hours on a Greyhound coach in order to reach the event.
When asked about his experience, Hawke explained, “Three flights cancelled, then I was like: ‘I’m not gonna miss this because of some airport. So, I went to port authority [in New York City] and hopped the bus.” He also revealed that nobody on the bus recognized him or cared about anyone else, allowing him to read his book and stay in the back, praying for their safe arrival.
Maya Hawke, who stars in the film directed by her father, commented on his long journey and the buzz it created at the festival. She said, “He did [take the bus]! Everyone’s talking about it… He had to take the bus here ’cause all the flights got cancelled.”
The ‘Stranger Things’ actress also expressed her pride in premiering the movie at the festival, especially considering the ongoing actors and writers strike. Despite the restrictions, she felt privileged to be at the festival, celebrating independent film and having the rare opportunity to see her movie with an audience.
