Hollywood Icons Unite: $1 Million Donations to Aid Fellow Performers During Dual Strikes
In an inspiring show of solidarity, Hollywood’s A-listers have answered the call from the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, pledging $1 million or more each to support their fellow performers during the ongoing actors and writers strikes.
Over the past three weeks, the Foundation has raised an impressive $15 million, with contributions from renowned names like George and Amal Clooney, Luciana and Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Hugh Jackman and Deborra-lee Furness, Dwayne Johnson, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, Julia Roberts, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Meryl Streep, and Oprah Winfrey.
“The Foundation is preparing to bring aid and hope to thousands of journeymen actors facing tremendous economic hardship,” said the Foundation. With the entertainment industry in crisis and a significant surge in applications for emergency aid, the Foundation’s Emergency Financial Assistance Program has become a lifeline for many performers, ensuring they don’t lose their homes, can afford utilities, provide for their families, cover medical expenses, and obtain life-saving prescriptions.
Dwayne Johnson’s seven-figure donation kick-started the campaign, followed by generous contributions from Meryl Streep and George Clooney, who also called on the companies to end the strikes. Streep expressed her gratitude for fellow actors stepping up to support the Emergency Financial Assistance Program, while Clooney emphasized the importance of giving back to the profession that has given them so much.
As the fundraising efforts continue, Hollywood’s united front stands ready to meet the overwhelming needs of the community during these challenging times. The A-listers’ compassion and determination are shining examples of how the industry can come together to support one another in times of crisis.
