Shujaat Saudagar, the director and co-creator of the upcoming period crime-drama streaming series ‘Bambai Meri Jaan’, has expressed that casting actor Kay Kay Menon as the cop Ismail Kadri in the show was an obvious choice. He believes Menon was the perfect fit for the role. The series also features Avinash Tiwary, Kritika Kamra, Nivedita Bhattacharya, and Amyra Dastur. It tells the story of Dara Kadri’s life and rise, seen through the eyes of his father, Ismail Kadri, who is torn between his duty and responsibilities as an honest cop.
Shujaat spoke about his decision to cast Menon, saying, “Kay Kay was a no-brainer, I had sent a script out to him. I have been trying to work with him for almost 20 years and things have never materialized. If there’s anyone who could do justice to the role of Ismial Kadri, it was this spectacular actor.” He further explained that he needed someone with a strong personality and aura to embody the character, and he was amazed at how effortlessly Menon portrayed him, bringing the character’s backstory and life to life in just one shot.
‘Bambai Meri Jaan’ is produced by Excel Media and Entertainment’s Ritesh Sidhwani, Kassim Jagmagia, and Farhan Akhtar. It is set to premiere on Prime Video on September 14.
