‘Murder, She Wrote’ is being adapted for the big screen once again, this time by writers Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo. The duo has confirmed that Universal has commissioned them to write a reboot of the classic series for a feature film. According to Schuker Blum, they have written a theatrical version of ‘Murder, She Wrote’ and are incredibly excited about it. The project is in collaboration with Pascal Pictures and Universal. They are thrilled to bring the beloved character Jessica Fletcher, portrayed by Dame Angela Lansbury, to the big screen.
Angelo expressed Universal’s enthusiasm for the project, stating that it is “Jessica Fletcher’s time to return.” However, Schuker Blum revealed that although the studio is fully supportive, there have been no recent discussions due to ongoing strikes in Hollywood involving SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild of America.
It remains uncertain who will take on the role of Jessica Fletcher following Angela Lansbury’s passing in October 2022 at the age of 96. Lansbury played the iconic character in 264 episodes of the murder mystery show from 1984 to 1996, as well as in four feature-length TV movies from 1997 to 2003.
Angela Lansbury’s death was announced by her family, stating that she passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Los Angeles. The acclaimed actress, born in London, received numerous awards throughout her career, including five Tony awards and an honorary Oscar. She was inducted into the TV Hall of Fame in 1996 and was bestowed the title of Dame by Queen Elizabeth in 2014. Reflecting on her role as Jessica Fletcher, Lansbury expressed gratitude for the international recognition and fame the character brought her.
