In an interview published on Tuesday, July 18, the 38-year-old country crooner acknowledged that before becoming a parent to daughter Lucy Louise in May 2022, he may not have always gotten it right. “There were years there where, you know, maybe I didn’t realize how much growing up I had needed to do,” Sam Hunt told ET Canada. He emphasized that having a child forces you to grow and undergo a significant shift in your nervous system. “There’s a skin that I needed to shed, and I did that when I had my child.”
Sam Hunt revealed that becoming a first-time dad awakened him from a routine he had fallen into after years of repetition. “I was just at a place in my life where I really needed that, and I’m grateful for it, and I feel like I leveled up in a lot of ways,” he said.
Prior to Lucy Louise’s birth, Hunt and his wife, Hannah Lee Fowler, faced difficulties in their relationship. In February 2022, three months before their daughter’s arrival, Fowler filed for divorce, accusing Sam Hunt of “inappropriate marital conduct” and “adultery.” Fortunately, the couple managed to reconcile, and Fowler called off the divorce in April.
Reflecting on his past choices and looking towards the future, Sam Hunt acknowledged that he still has a long way to go but is up for the challenge. “I’ve got a long way to go in general now, but I feel up for the challenge,” he expressed.
When it comes to paving the way for his children—Hunter and Fowler are currently expecting their second child—Sam Hunt believes that they act as mirrors in some ways. He mentioned that having children brings self-awareness, urging him to be more responsible in how he carries himself. “I have so much more perspective on myself—what I’m saying, how I’m saying it, how I’m carrying myself—and that’s powerful to see yourself through your child’s eyes,” he shared.
Sam Hunt and Fowler have managed to mend their relationship woes and are currently filled with joy as they anticipate the arrival of their second child. They are “walking on air” with excitement.
