According to reports, Steven Tyler is currently unable to speak due to vocal cord damage sustained during an Aerosmith show. The band had recently embarked on their farewell tour, but had to temporarily halt the trek after the singer experienced vocal cord bleeding during a performance in New York.
TMZ.com has stated that Tyler’s vocal cords were deemed “mangled” after he visited a throat specialist in Boston. As a result, he is currently struggling to speak and can only produce squeaking sounds.
Despite the injury occurring early in the show, Tyler decided to push through and continue performing. However, he has now been advised by doctors to undergo 30 days of vocal rest in order to recover.
A source mentioned to TMZ.com that Tyler is determined to return to the stage as soon as possible, describing him as an unstoppable force.
Aerosmith has made the decision to reschedule all remaining September tour dates to give Tyler sufficient time to heal. The announcement was made by Tyler himself on Instagram, where he expressed his disappointment at having to postpone the shows and promised fans a future performance that they deserve.
The affected concerts, which were set to take place in cities such as Detroit, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Toronto, Raleigh, and Cleveland, have been moved to January and February 2024.
The ‘Peace Out: The Farewell Tour’ is scheduled to resume on October 1.
