Former ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’ host Ty Pennington is recovering after a medical procedure to remove an abscess. Pennington, 58, took to Instagram to share his experience, stating that he is now okay but still in the recovery process.
The former ‘Trading Spaces’ contractor attended the red-carpet premiere of ‘Barbie’ on Sunday, July 9, before traveling to Breckenridge, Colorado, to begin filming a new project. However, on Tuesday morning, he woke up experiencing difficulty in breathing. It turned out that the persistent sore throat he had been experiencing was actually an abscess that had grown to the point of closing off his airway.
Pennington was admitted to a local hospital, where doctors intubated him. Eventually, he was airlifted to the ICU in Denver for surgery to remove the abscess. The procedure took place one day later, and Pennington was released from the ICU on Thursday, July 13.
