Austin Majors was found unresponsive in his bed at transitional housing, where he was staying at the time of his death. The former child star, known for his role in ‘NYPD Blue’, passed away in February at the age of 27. Last month, an autopsy revealed that his cause of death was an accidental fentanyl overdose.
According to a coroner’s report obtained by TMZ, security at the house discovered Austin’s unresponsive body during an evening bed check. Prior to that, he had been seen getting food at the facility. The report also mentioned that security found various items related to drug use, including rolled-up dollar bills, foil with white powder, pills, and a shot glass with white powder residue. The police collected these items as part of their investigation into Austin’s death.
Reports indicate that Austin had a history of substance abuse, involving alcohol, Xanax, cocaine, and ketamine. After his death, his family released a statement describing him as an artistic and kind individual who took great joy and pride in his acting career. They mentioned that from a young age, Austin had a goal of making people happy and never knew a stranger.
According to his family, Austin was an active Eagle Scout and graduated as the Salutatorian in High School. He went on to graduate from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, where he developed a passion for directing and music producing. Austin’s younger sister, Kali, shared that her most cherished memories with him were growing up on set, volunteering together at events with ‘Kids With a Cause’, and going backpacking.
Austin achieved recognition in 2002 when he won the Best Performance in a TV Series (Comedy or Drama) – Young Actor Age Ten or Under award at the Young Artist Awards for his role in ‘NYPD Blue’. In addition to his role as Theo Sipowicz, he appeared in various other TV shows, including ‘How I Met Your Mother’, ‘Desperate Housewives’, ‘American Dad!’, and ‘ER’.
